Gujarat adds 549 positive cases, 26 deaths in 24 hours; tally at 28,439, toll at 1711

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat in 24 hours ending 5pm on Tuesday added 549 positive cases, taking the tally past 28,000 at 28,429. The state’s death toll also crossed 1700 at 1711 with deaths of 26 Covid-19 positive patients. In 24 hours, Gujarat recorded discharge of 604 patients, crossing the 20,000 discharges mark at 20,521.
Gujarat is fourth in total cases and discharged patients in India after Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu whereas it’s third in deaths of Covid-19 patients after Maharashtra and Delhi. Among the four states, Gujarat has the lowest active cases (6197).
With the update on Friday, Gujarat now has 21.8% active cases whereas 72.2% of the patients are discharged and 6% of the patients have died.
Out of new cases, 230 were from Ahmedabad city, 152 from Surat city, 38 from Vadodara city, 23 from Surat district, 11 from Jamnagar city and 11 from Bharuch district. It was the lowest daily share of Ahmedabad district at 235 – 42.8% in Gujarat tally - in the month of June. In first 23 days of June, the district has recorded 62% (7,206) of the 11,635 cases.
The deaths included 13 from Ahmedabad city, five from Surat city, two from Ahmedabad district and one from Gandhinagar city, Gandhinagar district, Surat district, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Amreli and Patan. Discharges were recorded from Ahmedabad city (381), Surat city (76), Ahmedabad district (40), Bharuch (19) and Vadodara city (15) among others.
June 23 marked three months of Gujarat’s first Covid-19 patient death. Analysis of the deaths reveal that in the first month the state recorded 112 (6.5%) of deaths, second 717 (42%) and third 882 (51.5%). However, the second month recorded the highest death rate - for the three months, the death rate (deaths per 100 positive patients) was 4.3, 6.5 and 6.
Gujarat carried out 4983 tests in 24 hours, taking the total number to 3.34 lakh. As on Tuesday evening, Gujarat has 2.28 lakh persons under quarantine including 2.24 lakh under home quarantine.
