<p>The carcasses of the Indian gaurs were found near Kollupal area.<o:p></o:p></p>ERODE: Two Indian gaurs were found dead in Andhiyur forest range in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Forest officials said the male and female Indian gaurs died of age-related illnesses.
Personnel from Andhiyur forest range were on regular patrol in Ennamangalam reserve forest on Tuesday. They found the carcasses of the two Indian gaurs near Kollupal area in the forest.
The average lifespan of an Indian gaur is about 25-30 years. “Both were aged around 18 and 20 years,” said, K Uthirasamy, forest range officer (FRO) of Andhiyur forest range.
Forest personnel alerted the FRO.
Veterinary doctors from the department led by Dr K Asokan reached the spot and carried out postmortem.
“Postmortem confirmed that both the gaurs died of aged-related ailments,” the FRO said.
The carcasses were buried in the reserve forest.
