KRISHNAGIRI: A man and his daughter drowned in a well near Hosur in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday evening while he was teaching her to swim.
The deceased have been identified as K Prasath, 37, of Simbalthotty village near Berigai and his daughter Sylaja, 10. Prasath was a farmer. The girl was a Class V student in a private school.
A police official said Prasath was teaching Sylaja to swim in an agricultural well near their house. Prasath was standing on the parapet of the well and monitoring his daughter, who was swimming.
“Sylaja suddenly struggled to swim, and Prasath jumped into the well to rescue her,” the official said. However, both drowned.
Local villagers, who witnessed the incident, alerted the Berigai police officials. The bodies were retrieved and sent to a government hospital in Hosur for post-mortem.
A case was registered.
