Bengaluru: Three befriend jeweller, flee with gold ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh

BENGALURU: Three men cheated a 50-year-old jeweller by purchasing gold necklaces worth Rs 8.3 lakh, but not making the payment for over a year.
Jithendra O Jain of Banashankari 1st Stage has told Hanumanthanagar police that Nikhil Rai Sony, Chethan and Hardik befriended him in 2019 and introduced themselves as real estate businessmen.
They approached Jain at his residence on May 28, 2019 and informed him that they were inaugurating their real estate offic e.
"They asked me to give them five gold necklaces claiming that they wanted to gift them to their guests. They chose the ornaments worth Rs 8.3 lakh and said they wished to take them to show their family members. They assured me that they would make payment once their family members agreed wit h their choices," Jain told police.
But, the trio neither paid the amount nor returned the jewellery to Jain. They initially sought some time to make the payment, but did not abide by their words. Jain waited for over a year and approached police on Saturday.
Police have registered a case under the IPC sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) against the suspects.
