Residents complained that clogged drains are leading to waterloggingGreater Noida: Residents of several sectors in Greater Noida woke up to waterlogged roads on Monday following a brief spell of showers.
They demanded that work related to cleaning of drains be completed before monsoon sets in.“Brief showers early on Monday led to waterlogging in front of the bus stand in Kasna. Similar incidents of waterlogging were reported from other areas as well,” said Harinder Bhati, a resident of Sector Beta 1.
Residents of Sector Alpha 1 complained of similar problems and urged the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to prepare a monsoon plan at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the parks in Noida, which have remained untended due to lockdown, are now showing signs of neglect. “We have written to the Noida Authority CEO, Ritu Maheshwari, as well as the horticulture department to tend to the children’s park in Sector 51 which lacks cleanliness, including other parks in Blocks C and D of the sector. They are all lying in bad condition with boundary walls broken at some places. Due to lack of water, even the grass in most of the parks has dried up,” said Sanjeev Kumar, the RWA general secretary of Sector 51.
Kumar further added that while the main water body inside the park was cleaned a few days back, garbage from the work is still not removed. “Also, due to no sweeping inside the park, morning walkers are regularly raising complaints,” said Kumar.
While Prabhat Shankar, assistant manager of sewage and STP department, GNIDA promised to address the issue of waterlogging and removal of roadside silt, Noida Authority has already begun de-silting work on main drains as part of its monsoon preparations.
