Successive govts have neglected border areas of Ladakh: Nyoma\'s BDC chair

Leh: Nyoma block development council (BDC) chairperson Urgain Chodon from BJP alleged that successive central governments have failed to protect the nomads, their pastures and neglected border areas of Ladakh.

According to her, Chinese incursions and occupation of Indian territories are old realities ignored for several years and there has been no development of border infrastructure. “Boycotting Chinese products and deleting Chinese apps may have a temporary emotional or miniscule economic impact but what matters is protection of borders, which we have failed at miserably,” Chodon told ET.

She was the first public representative in Ladakh to raise concerns on social media about the increased Chinese activity along the border in April. However, she received calls from various quarters after which she deleted her post. “We are not only losing our lands but nomads are now selling their herds and shifting from the border. This makes the territory more prone to occupation by the Chinese. China has developed the border area on its side,” said Chodon.
