Nitin Gadkari, BJP lied to Goa regarding mining resumption: Congress

PANAJI: A day after Union minister Nitin Gadkari addressed a virtual rally, the Congress party on Monday came out strongly against the BJP government, accusing the ruling party of lying and issuing false promises to the mining sector.
Gadkari’s silence on core issues faced by the average Goan indicates the BJP’s insensitivity towards the marginalized, the Congress party said.
“Gadkari blatantly lied to the people of Goa by saying that the BJP government has resumed mining in Goa,” said state Congress president Girish Chodankar. Chodankar addressed a press conference along with opposition leader Digambar Kamat, former Union minister Ramakant Khalap and former MLA Agnelo Fernandes at the Congress head office.
With the state government frequently borrowing to meet expenditure requirements, the per capita liability is increasing while the Centre continues to deny Goa Rs 750 crores as compensation for drop in GST collections.
“The chief minister himself has admitted that not even a single rupee is received from the Centre against the package of Rs 2,000 crore demanded by the state government. This clearly indicates that the Modi government has pushed the country into financial emergency,” said Kamat.
