GMC hospital. (Photo: gmc.goa.gov.in)PANAJI: Goa registered its first Covid-19 death on Monday after an 85-year-old man from Morle village in Sattari taluka in North Goa who was shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital, Bambolim in a critical condition died.
He was shifted to Covid hospital in Margao late Sunday evening. “The patient succumbed to the infection at 5.30am,” said a doctor at the hospital.
The man was bedridden for a while and after one of his family members complained that he had fallen unconscious on Sunday, he was taken to GMC, said village sarpanch Vidya Sawant.
The deceased belongs to the ward of Morle village which was declared a containment zone last week. His daughter-in-law and son had tested positive last week and are under treatment in Covid hospital.
As of Sunday, 19 people from the village have been tested positive. Out of 818 confirmed cases of Covid-19 reported in the State, 135 patients have been cured and discharged.
