PRAYAGRAJ: Ashes of the brave soldier, Deepak Singh, who was among the 20 brave soldiers who had laid down their lives in a skirmish with Chinese army on June 15, were immersed in the Sangam by his family members, on Monday.
Earlier on the day, around 50 persons from Singh’s native village of Faranda, around 100 kilometer from Rewa, brought the ashes of the brave soldier for immersion. This included his family members, relatives and also many friends with whom young Deepak grew in the village and did his early studies.
“We started in the morning and all the way upto Sangam, locals stopped us to pay tribute to the brave soldier of our mother land”, said elder brother of Deepak, Prakash Singh, who is posted as Sowar (sepoy) in 75 Armoured, Jaisalmer.
Prakash further informed that Deepak had spent just around a fortnight with his newly wedded wife before he had to report back to his duty. “He was married on November 30, last year and that was my last meeting with him”, said his elder brother.
He also informed that Deepak was to move to UN’s peace keeping force to some country with his unit, 16Bihar where he was attached as nursing assistant before he laid down his life fighting the enemies.
The ashes of the brave soldier was immersed in the holy water of Sangam amidst chanting of vedic mantra.
The mortal remains of the brave soldier had earlier arrived at Bamrauli airbase of Indian Air Force (IAF) on Thursday last. The remains were brought to Prayagraj’s IAF airbase en route to his native village. Aftr being kept overnight at the Military Hospital (MH) of the New Cantonment of the city, rich tributes were paid to his mortal remains by the officials of the Indian Army along with those of the district administration.
