Earthquake rattles Rayagada district in Odisha

The National Centre for Seismology said that the earthquake occurred at 16:40 hours in Kasipur area of the district.

Earthquake in Odisha: An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 on the Richter scale hit Odisha’s Rayagada district on Monday afternoon. The National Centre for Seismology said that the earthquake occurred at 16:40 hours in Kasipur area of the district. There is no immediate report of damage to property or loss of live.

A series of earthquakes have been reported in various parts of the country in the recent days. Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed low to moderate intensity earthquakes.

Earlier today, an earthquake of 5.3 magnitude hit Mizoram damaging houses and roads in t he state. No casualties were reported in the state. The National Centre for Seismology said that the earthquake occurred at 4.10 am and the epicentre was at Zokhawthar in Champhai district on the India-Myanmar border. Tremors were felt across the state, including the state capital Aizawl, news agency PTI reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga assuring him of all help from the Centre in the wake of earthquake.

“Spoke to the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri Zoramthanga Ji, on the situation in the wake of the earthquake there. Assured all possible support from the Centre,” PM Modi said in his tweet.

Home Minister Amit Shah said he spoke to the Mizoram CM to take stock of the situation.

On Sunday, an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude also hit Mizoram around 4.10 pm. The tremors were also felt in the neighbouring states of Meghalaya and Manipur. Another earthquake of 4.6 magnitude occurred on June 18, PTI reported.
