Kashmir: Gunfight breaks out between security forces and militants in Anantnag

Encounter started as a joint team of the police, Army and CRPF was fired upon by hiding militants in Verinag forests of South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Verinag forests of South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday morning.

According to reports, a joint team of the police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search-operation in Verinag forests after an input.

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

A senior police officer confirmed the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants.
