Jamshedpur: In the last 40 days, East
Singhbhum district reported 308 positive
cases of Covid-19, of which 164 recovered in the last 26 days, which accounts for around 53% recovery. Though the cases kept rising, a stringent administrative
vigil is in place to ensure that the figures do not shoot up alarmingly.
As part of the measures to keep the infection under control, cases were filed against seven persons under the epidemic Act at Sakchi police station for flouting the norms in the last 24 hours. SSP Tamil Vanan said, “Police won’t excuse people for violating safety norms. It is a request to the citizens to comply with the protective measures.”
As part of its drive to make people comply with the safety measures, police increased its patrolling in the market areas besides checking motorists to ensure every individual is wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.
However, despite directions, people are found riding pillion on two-wheelers. “The cost of transportation on auto-rickshaws is very high these days. I only have a two-wheeler, but how will I carry my family members if the rules are so strict?” said a resident of Bagunnagar requesting anonymity.
District civil surgeon Maheshwar Prasad said people should come forward as far as compliance is concerned as these measures are in the interest of the lives of the people. “These are difficult times, but people should realise that regulatory measures are aimed at protecting their lives by checking the spread of the coronavirus,” Prasad said.
