GREATER NOIDA: A Delhi health department official returning home from duty was allegedly manhandled by two cops at the Delhi-Noida border on DND Flyway on Friday evening for taking a nap in his car, prompting the Noida police to launch a probe.
In a complaint, the official’s wife Namrata has claimed that her husband — Saurabh Mishra, a resident of Noida’s Sector 137 — was stopped by cops at the border for checking around 6.30 pm on Friday. He is a deputy health officer with the Delhi government.
“My husband was pulled up by a head constable for taking a nap on the rear seat, despite our driver being at the wheel. Saurabh told the cop that he was taking rest as he was very tired. But the cop told him that he can’t sleep in the car. And suddenly, a sub-inspector came and started manhandling him,” Namrata told cops.
The matter was later sorted out after the Sector 20 police station SHO intervened and allowed the official to cross the border. “But this is unacceptable. My husband is a senior health official,” she said, also taking to social media to hit out at the cops.
Following the complaint, deputy commissioner (zone 1) Sankalp Sharma has ordered a probe into the incident. “An internal inquiry was launched soon after the matter reached to me. An ACP has been given the responsibility to establish the sequence of events, relevant action will be taken after investigation,” he said.
