How Fast Is The 2020 Bentley Flying Spur In The 0-62 MPH Sprint?

‘How much does it cost’ and ‘how fast is it’ are questions that Bentley’s dealers don’t hear too often when it comes to certain models, such as the new Flying Spur.

That’s because, in the ultra luxury sedan’s case, the ‘if you have to ask how much it costs, you probably can’t afford it’ saying does apply, and Bentleys may be fast, but they were first and foremost designed to be as luxurious and comfortable as possible. You are looking at rides bathed in the finest materials and equipped with things such as champagne coolers, so they are far from being the lightest in the market.

Still, for a car with a curb weight of almost 5,500 lbs (2.5 tons), the 2020 Flying Spur is very fast. Nought to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) takes only 3.8 seconds and tunnel vision is assured at a maximum speed of 207 mph (333 km/h). These are official numbers provided by Bentley and are made possible by the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine, which produces 626 HP (635 PS / 467 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque and comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

But how does the 0 to 62 miles per hour acceleration translate into the real world? The answer to this question came from Rory Reid, who performed three runs on a closed road after shooting the main review of the flagship sedan, and recorded the times. Mind you, the car barely had any petrol left in the tank, so it should be interesting to see how it did.
