Management Development Institute email hacked, fake admission mail sent to 3 students

Gurgaon: A few days after city’s Management Development Institute (MDI) ranked among the top 10 business schools in the country, hackers attacked its official email account and allegedly tried to cheat three aspiring students. The students were allegedly offered admissions under a non-existent category.
The matter came to light when the three students, after receiving admission offers from the official email ID of the institution, approached MDI for admission. To the surprise of the management, the students’ names did not feature in the list of selected students and no one from the admission office had sent any email to them.
Besides, MDI has no IP quota for admission.
“It was found that the admission process of PGP2020 was not complete when the alleged emails were sent to the candidates,” said Arun Kumar Singh, chief administrative officer of MDI.
On June 16, MDI filed a complaint and requested a speedy investigation.
On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was registered on Friday under sections 66C (identity theft) and 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the IT Act at Cyber police station. “We are trying to trace the culprits,” said ACP Karan Goel.
