Man dead, woman grievously injured after car plunges into lake in Udupi

MANGALURU: A person died and another was grievously injured after a car they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a lake, in Chowlikere, Barkur- Saibrakatte road, on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, the incident took place around 2pm, when victim Santosh Shetty, 38, resident of Koteshwara and Shwetha, 23 were travelling in a SUV towards Saibrakatte from Barkur. On reaching Chowlikere, which has a steep turn, the driver Santosh lost control over the vehicle, after veering off, it plunged into the lake. After it was plunged, Santosh drowned and locals present at the spot managed to pull out Shwetha. Police said Shwetha is grievously injured and is being treated at a private hospital in Manipal.
A case has been registered at Brahmavar police station.
