Heirs of MSEDCL employees who died of COVID-19 to get Rs 30 lakh compensation

Dr Nitin Raut Maharashtra state minister for Energy Ministry said, "The power department has decided to provide an insurance cover of Rs 30 lakh to the contract employees (external sources) appointed for operation and repair work in MSEDCL, as well as security guards working in various offices of MSEDCL across Maharashtra."

Pune: Apart from the police, doctors and other cleaning department staffers of Maharashtra, even the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) workers are working round the clock to fight the COVID-19 outbreak, along with heavy rainfall. 

MSEDCL has decided to provide financial aid of Rs 30 lakh to who die while rendering duty, as these corona-warriors have worked to provide uninterrupted power supply as well as quality service to about 26 million customers in the state.

Minister Raut said, "In the global outbreak of COVID-19, MSEDCL engineers, staff and outsourced contract workers are doing their duty regardless of their lives, to tend to power outage and supply cut complaints. While the Government is trying its best to defeat COVID-19, the common man in the state must stay at home. MSEDCL has provided 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply to those living in such houses and working from home. In this regard, there are chances that employees of MSEDCL also can be transmitted with COVID-19. The Department of Energy has taken this important decision by showing concern seriously about the safety of our employees, as well as the future of their families is not left in the dark."

This insurance grant will be applicable to all engineers, officers and employees working in technical departments as well as under the non-technical category of MSEDCL. Based on the medical report, the amount will be disbursed to them. MSEDCL has also clarified that the terms and conditions regarding attendance at work for payment of this insurance grant will remain as per the decision of the Government of Maharashtra.
