KSEEB to take final look at SSLC SOP at meeting on June 22

MANGALURU: Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) will take one final look at its SOP put in place for the SSLC examinations getting underway across Karnataka on June 24 on Monday. Minister for primary and secondary education S Suresh Kumar will interact with all deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and deputy directors, department of public instruction through videoconferencing to get the examination checklist right.

This follows a case of ‘false positive’ reported in a student who appeared for the second PU English examination on June 18. Not wanting to take any chances, KSEEB has also offered to conduct SSLC examination for students who individually or their family member or relative has tested positive for coronavirus or are in quarantine with the supplementary examinations scheduled for July. Such candidates will be treated as fresh candidates, Suresh Kumar said.

Taking note of some lacunae in the way English examination was conducted on Thursday, the minister said these will be addressed before the SSLC examinations start. Rush was noticed outside the examination centre gates, at the barricades and at the entrance. This will be addressed. In Malnad and coastal regions which receive heavy rainfall, health screening of students will be moved inside the examination centre if such a situation arises, he said.

“We will ensure that staff deputed for SSLC examination are ready at the centres from 7am so that they can receive students and guide them to their respective examination hall. Students will also get advance information on the exact location of their hall through SMS, so that they can avoid crowding at the notice boards,” he said. DDPIs will cross inspect arrangements made in other districts to ensure full compliance with the SOP, the minister said.

Students not less than 18 and not exceeding 20 will be accommodated in a hall. Against 1016 centres used for English examination, KSEEB has arranged for 3000 plus centres for SSLC examination. “Each hall will have not less than 18 students and not exceeding 20 with 3-1/2 feet distance between each student and desk,” he said, adding Karnataka has an opportunity to showcase how examinations can be held successfully amidst a pandemic, he said.
