134 payment-related complaints resolved: BMC

MUMBAI: The BMC on Sunday said that it has so far settled 134 payment related complaints it received from patients who were admitted to 26 private hospitals for Covid-19 treatment.
The amount that has been reduced from these patients' bills totals upto about Rs. 23 lakh 42 thousand.
The Maharashtra government has last month issued a notification taking over 80 per cent beds in private hospitals and nursing homes across the state and also capped treatment charges.
The charges for a Covid-19 patient in the general isolation ward cannot be more than Rs 4,000 a day, the maximum charge for an ICU (for (intensive care unit) is capped at Rs 7,500 a day, and for ventilators are capped at Rs 9,000 a day.
Civic sources said that the complaints received and which have been settled where from patients admitted to hospitals like Jaslok, Bombay Hospital, Wockhardt, Saifee.
The BMC had appointed municipal auditors for various private hospitals after receiving complaints from patients who were admitted in it for corona virus treatment.
The total amount levied in all these complaints was Rs. 1 crore 61 lakh 88 thousand 819. After the audit of these payments by the officials of the corporation, the actual amount was reduced to Rs. 1 crore 38 lakh 46 thousand 705. In other words, the total amount of levy was reduced by 23,42,114.
Civic officials said that there are many more grievances received and the remaining grievances are also being audited by the auditors and emphasis is being laid on resolving them expeditiously.
Meanwhile, about 40 per cent of the complaints received by the corporation are from the period prior to the government notification to fix the rates of private hospitals.
