Maharashtra: Four constables test Covid-19 positive in Thane jail

MUMBAI: Four police constables, attached to the Thane Central jail tested Covid-19 positive to on Sunday. They were suffering from fever and their swab test report stated that they were Covid-19 positive.
All the four constables have been sent for treatment and those into their close contacts have been quarantined. An official said that soon after the jail authorities realized about fever, they asked the doctors to take swabs of constables.
In May, a pregnant woman prisoner at the Thane jail, who was sent to Thane civil hospital after she complained of uneasiness, was tested Covid-19 positive when she returned to the jail after 10 days of treatment. She was again sent to the hospital for Covid-19 treatment. Apart from this, a jail guard and another constable, posted outside the Thane jail were also found Covid-19 positive and sent for treatment in the last week of May. Three other jail constables who were in close contact with the duo, tested negative.
Till date, a woman prisoner was found at the Byculla jail, 84 male prisoners and 28 jail officials were found positive in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail.
