2 new cases in Ambelim

Ambelim: Two fresh COVID cases were reported in Ambelim on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to eight, while 11 cases linked to Ambelim were reported in other parts of Salcete taluka.

Sarpanch Danica Coutinho said the health department had carried out test of 33 persons related to the five patients, who were detected to be positive for the virus on Friday. She said two samples out of the 33 tested positive

for the virus.

Eleven cases detected are linked to Ambelim with sources claiming that they have either come in contact with the priest, who had tested positive recently, or other persons who were infected in the village. 

The sarpanch said the village panchayat is taking all precautions and has requested the fire department to sanitise the village on Monday.

Meanwhile, another case has been reported in Quepem, taking the total number of cases to five. The fresh case detected comes at a time when the five-day total lockdown is set to be lifted there.
