UT reports month's highest spike of 24 new Covid cases

CHANDIGARH: The city's Covid-19 tally jumped to 404 on Saturday, when 24 new cases were reported - the highest in a day in this month.
One of the new cases is a 20-year-old woman from Bapu Dham Colony. She is not anyone's contact. The rest are all contacts of positive cases. The 20-year-old had been admitted for delivery and tested positive. Her two family contacts were tested.
A 65-year-old woman resident who was reported as positive from Mauli Jagran, was found to be from Mubarakpur in Mohali after field investigations. She had come to visit her daughter at Mauli Jagran for treatment on June 12. She had complaints of fever and abdominal discomfort. The woman had visited General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, and returned home the same day. She went to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, on June 16 for treatment. She was diagnosed as positive on June 19. She had 19 family contacts and two community contacts in Mauli Jagran. Out of the 19 contacts, 12 were reported to be positive. Two community contacts were also tested positive.
Also, seven family contacts of a Sector 24 resident who tested positive on June 19 were detected with Covid-19. The Sector 24 resident is a 61-year-old former employee of Government Multi specialty hospital-16. His family contacts include four children and three adults. They are a 38-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman and a 57-year-old woman, while the children are six months old boy and a six-year-old, 10-year-old and 12-year-old girls.
On June 16, a 35-year-old resident of Sector 25 was confirmed positive for the virus. He works in Punjab government office in Sector 35. Out of his four family contacts, three had tested positive on Wednesday. His workplace contact contracted the virus on Saturday. The patient is a 54-year-old resident of Sector 39. He has two family contacts, who were sampled. A three-year-old girl, who is a family contact of a Sector 38 case reported on June 19, also tested positive. At the same time, a 57-year-old woman resident of Sector 21 was discharged.
In Mohali, 10 more people tested positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday, taking the total count to 218. Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said the patients are a 20-year-old man from Baltana. He is a contact of Bapu Dham positive case. 52-year-old man from Sector 91, Mohali, has also been tested positive. A 35-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl from Kurali have also been tested positive. Both had travel history to UP.
A 67-year-old woman from Mundi Kharar has also been tested positive of the virus. The woman is a heart patient and is admitted to PGI. A 28-year-old man, a resident of Neulka, has recovered and has been discharged. In Ambala, six new positive cases have been reported, taking the tally to 269. Eight patients have been discharged.
