Police step up checking at Polem check-post

Margao: Intensifying checking at the Polem border so as to keep a check on spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus, South Goa police has posted three police teams each headed by police inspectors at the check-post.

The teams headed by police inspectors are keeping a strict watch at the check-post.

Police inspectors Rajendra Prabhudessai, Filomen Costa and Ramesh Shirodker, besides PSI Francisco Xavier and other staff is keeping a strict watch on people passing through the check-post at Polem to ensure proper checking.  Executive magistrate is also posted there every day besides a doctor and other staff.

Apart from the check-post, all other paths giving access into the state are being checked by the police. Police patrolling has been intensified in these areas.

According to police, all travelers entering Goa by road are screened at the entry point using a thermal gun and any symptomatic traveler is kept in isolation and tested.

Every vehicle is checked and in case of heavy vehicles not more than two drivers and cleaners are allowed subject to proper checking.   

Recently, Superintendent of Police of South Goa Arvind Gawas had paid a surprise visit to the Polem check-post and directed police officers to intensify checking.
