Curtorim chapel priest tests positive for virus

Margao: A priest serving in a chapel at Curtorim has tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic, taking the number of COVID cases in the village to more than 10.

Raia village has recorded seven positive cases, so far. “Of the total 56 samples taken on Thursday in the village, one tested positive for the virus. On Friday, we took 96 samples of throat swab for testing,” Curtorim health officer Dr Vallab Nadkarni said.

The villagers have been on their toes, and they saw posters and banners on COVID awareness emerging. “Villagers are cooperating for the awareness campaign. Together we can check the spread of the virus,’’ Curtorim legislator Alex Reginaldo Lourenco said.

Former ZP member Moreno Rebello also wrote to the fire and emergency services seeking sanitisation of the school, the church and other public places so as to help keep coronavirus at bay.  Prominent villagers have put curbs in the movement of the people in the village.

Trying to keep a tab on the Raia COVID situation, Loutolim health officer Dr Vinesh Gaonkar took swab samples of ten people including those who came in contact with the family of Manora Raia, who tested positive for the virus. NT
