TT must be prepared for virus wave
THE EDITOR: Due to the unprecedented global rise in covid19 cases, TT’s primary agenda should be the implementation of effective measures to deal with the possibility of further cases, both imported and local. The first wave has created a tsunami of negative effects to our economy and social life.
The decline in our economy continues to affect the health of many of our people who are still without work due to the closure of businesses.
It is crucial that TT prepares adequately to deal with a worse case scenario. Community centres and stadiums should be disinfected and kept in readiness for any eventuality. Beds and hospital equipment must be sourced without hesitation.
Let us face the fact that there are too many inconsistencies in TT. Social distancing, a key element in preventing community spread, is not always observed. The regulations need to be firm and not allow people to congregate as they please.
The authorities must have their hands in all areas and events to ensure people are complying with the covid19 guidelines.
Our borders must remain tightly shut. Opening them would be like opening a can of worms. It is frightful to think we can be a flexible people when it comes to endangering lives.
The safety of our people and future of our nation must be embedded in our psyche. Let us endeavour to counter the pandemic by ensuring that all safety protocols are observed. Our leaders must also be tasked with making the necessary provisions with the expectation of an unwelcomed wave o cases.
