Builders' merchant Travis Perkins has at least three sites in North Wales on its closure hitlist.
The firm - which also owns Toolstation and Wickes - is closing 165 sites with around 2,500 workers to lose their jobs.
The company said the decision comes as it expects the impending recession to hit trade for at least two years.
North Wales Live has been told that Holyhead, Llandudno and Rhyl stores are on the list.
Holyhead Cllr Vaughan Williams said: "I'm very saddened to hear this news regarding another local employer.

"This is an extremely challenging time for our community locally, with job losses elsewhere in the town.
"My heart goes out to those affected.
"Continued investment is needed in the town in order to create jobs and sustain our community.
"Sadly the future remains uncertain with regards to Brexit, this is a very anxious time and we need to support each other."

Travis Perkins chief executive Nick Roberts said: "Whilst we have experienced improving trends more recently, we do not expect a return to pre-Covid trading conditions for some time and consequently we have had to take the very difficult decision to begin consultations on the closure of selected branches and to reduce our workforce to ensure we can protect the Group as a whole.
"This is in no way a reflection on those employees impacted and we will do everything we can to support them during this process."
The redundancies make up around 9% of the total workforce, the company added, with the store closures reducing its portfolio by 8%.
