KALYAN: The decision to increase 200 ICU beds and 200 oxygen beds in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation area was taken at a review meeting held by guardian minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday in Kalyan as part of efforts to combat the coronavirus epidemic in the entire MMR region including Kalyan-Dombivli.
The meeting held on Saturday a day after a-45 -year old patient on Friday died in absence of proper treatment facilities available at KDMC run Rukminibai hospital and also as Covid-19 cases are increasing in city where numbers of patients have reached 3257 including 71 death so far.
The meeting called by Shinde was attended by all parties leaders and senior KDMC official. During meeting Shinde ordered KDMC commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi to identify place on urgent basis to set up 200 oxygen and 200 ICU beds and asked him to work together in region by taking representative of all parties.
A large number of temporary hospitals are being set up in the MMR region, including Mumbai, Thane, Ulhasnagar and Ambernath. The KDMC is also setting up a temporary hospital with 200 beds is at Savlaram Sports Complex in Dombivli.
At meeting, Shinde also emphasized the need for door-to-door mass screening.
The meeting also reviewed the plans to set up a quarantine center at Patidar Hall in Dombivli, Covid Hospital in Savlaram Sports Complex, a quarantine centers in the municipal building at Lal chowcky area in Kalyan (West) and cultural arts center at Kalyan East.
He also directed the municipal administration to increase the manpower of doctors, nurses and supporting staff and increase the number of ambulances. Shinde said a fund of Rs 17 crore has been made available for KDMC through the state government and if required he will arrange more funds.
