Coronavirus India News LIVE Updates: Today is the 88th day of India’s nationwide lockdown, meant to curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India is now among the five countries most affected by the outbreak, with a total of 380,532 infections and 12,573 deaths. The Supreme Court on June 19 took note of the differences in COVID-19 testing charges in various states and asked the Centre to decide on the issue, and said all states should set up a panel of experts to inspect hospitals to ensure proper care the patients. The top court bench observed during the hearing that there should be uniformity in COVID-19 testing charge in all states.

India on Saturday saw another record spike of 14,516 new COVID-19 cases in a single-day, pushing the tally to 3,95,048, while the death toll rose to 12,948 with 375 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The number of recoveries continued to surge with 2,13,830 patients cured so far, while there are 1,68,269 active cases, according to the updated official figures at 8 am.  One patient has migrated.

Globally, there have been over 86.39 lakh confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 4.59 lakh people have died so far. The United States, Brazil, Russia, India and the United Kingdom are the most-affected countries.

  • Glenmark launches COVID-19 drug after DCGI nod; MRP at Rs 103 per tablet

    Drug firm Glenmark Pharmaceuticals on Saturday said it has launched antiviral drug Favipiravir, under the brand name FabiFlu, for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 at a price of about Rs 103 per tablet. The drug will be available as a 200 mg tablet at a maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs 3,500 for a strip of 34 tablets, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals said.

    FabiFlu is the first oral favipiravir-approved medication in India for the treatment of COVID-19, it said in a statement. It is a prescription-based medication, with recommended dose being 1,800 mg twice daily on day one, followed by 800 mg twice daily up to day 14, it added. (PTI)

    Six people working in the Uttar Pradesh Helpline 112 have tested positive for COVID-19, following which the office has been closed for sanitisation till Monday, a police officer said. They are of the technical team and work in the server area, he said, adding that all of them are asymptomatic.

    "After one of the personnel working in UP-112 tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, samples of 30 people were taken. Five of them have tested positive for COVID-19," ADG, UP-112, Asim Kumar Arun said in a statement. (PTI)

    Pakistan on Saturday reported 153 coronavirus deaths, the highest spike in a single-day in the country, while the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases crossed the 171,000-mark, health officials said. According to the Ministry of National Health Services, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 171,665 after 6,604 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours. The total death toll stands at 3,382 after 153 more deaths were registered.
    The ministry said that 63,504 people have recovered so far across Pakistan, making it a significant count. (PTI)

    Tripura reported 27 fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the state's tally to 1,186, officials said on Saturday. A total of 657 people have recovered, reducing the number of active cases in the state to 529, they said. 

    "Out of 1,279 samples tested for COVID-19, 27 people found positive. The count includes South Dist: 19, Gomati Dist: 3, West Dist: 3, Unokoti Dist: 2," Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted. Tripura has been witnessing a rise in the number coronavirus cases days after it was declared free from the disease in late April.     Singapore on Saturday recorded 218 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the tally to 41,833, majority of them foreign workers, a day after the city-state allowed reopening of malls, restaurants and other non-essential businesses after over two months.

    Of the 218 new cases, two are community cases, both work pass holders, and the remaining are work permit holders living in foreign worker dormitories, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in its preliminary daily update. On Friday, shops and food and beverage outlets across Singapore welcomed customers as the Phase two of the post-circuit breaker reopening began.     A 60-year-old man from Puri district became the latest COVID-19 fatality in Odisha, raising the death toll due to the contagion in the state to 12, a health department official said on Saturday. Odisha also recorded 179 new cases of the respiratory ailment, including 18 disaster response personnel, he said.
    "Regret to report the death of a 60-year-old COVID positive male of Puri district while under treatment at hospital," the Health and Family Welfare Department said in a statement. (PTI)

  • 52 COVID-19 cases reported in Puducherry; tally mounts to 338

    Puducherry recorded 52 fresh cases of COVID-19, its highest single day spike so far, taking the tally of infections in the Union Territory to 338. Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan told reporters on Saturday that after shifting one patient taking treatment in Maharashtra from the portal of Puducherry and with the outbreak of 52 fresh cases, the aggregate stood at 338 during last 24 hours.   • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal opposes LG order on home isolation of COVID-19 patients

    Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday opposed Lt Governor Anil Baijal's order for a five-day institutional quarantine for COVID-19 patients, saying why the separate rule was employed in case of Delhi, sources said.

    At a DDMA meeting, Kejriwal said the ICMR has permitted home isolation for asymptomatic and mild symptom COVID-19 patients in the whole country, then why a separate rule was employed in case of Delhi, according to the sources. "Most corona patients are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, how will arrangements be made for them. The coaches provided by the Railways for isolation are hot inside where patients can not stay," Kejriwal was quoted as saying at the meeting. (PTI)
