NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched an employment scheme with an outlay of Rs 50,000 crore for migrant workers who returned to their home states during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. Launching the scheme, PM Modi said during the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus, the talent from cities returned to villages and it will now give a boost to development of rural areas.

The 'Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyaan' will be implemented on a mission mode in 125 days in 116 districts of six states -- Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha -- that received the maximum numbers of migrant workers back.
Under the scheme, the basket of a wide variety of works will ensure that each migrant worker is able to get an opportunity of employment according to his skill in the coming 125 days.
India on Saturday saw another record spike of 14,516 new Covid-19 cases in a single-day, pushing the tally to 3,95,048, while the death toll rose to 12,948 with 375 new fatalities, according to Union health ministry data. The number of recoveries continued to surge with 2,13,830 patients cured so far, while there were 1,68,269 active cases.
Drug firm Glenmark Pharmaceuticals said it has launched antiviral drug Favipiravir, under the brand name FabiFlu, for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate Covid-19 at a price of about Rs 103 per tablet.
The drug will be available as a 200 mg tablet at a maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs 3,500 for a strip of 34 tablets, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals said.
The Indian Council of Medical Research informed that 1,89,869 coronavirus tests were conducted by various laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of tests conducted by the laboratories in a single day.
With the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic looming large, International Day of Yoga on Sunday will be celebrated on digital media platforms sans mass gatherings and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message would be the highlight of the occasion. This year's theme is 'Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family'.
Researchers, including an Indian-origin scientist, have shown that infants under 90 days of age who tested positive for Covid-19 tend to be well, with little or no respiratory symptoms.
According to the study, published in The Journal of Pediatrics, fever was often found to be the primary or only symptom in new born babies infected with the novel coronavirus.

Delhi: Only those Covid positive patients who don't require hospitalisation on clinical assessment and don't have adequate facilities for home isolation will need to undergo institutional isolation, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal said. His statement came following protests by Kejriwal-led Delhi government against his order mandating five-day quarantine for all Covid-19 patients.
Tamil Nadu: As lockdown without relaxations continued for day two here, chief minister K Palaniswami described it as a 'speed breaker', saying the curbs were being used to further augment detection of Covid-19 cases in Chennai by conducting more door to door surveys and fever camps.
UP: Twenty-two people have succumbed to Covid-19 and 541 more people tested positive in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours. The death toll in the state now is 529 with the coronavirus tally reaching 17,135.
Karnataka: A 56-year-old head constable, who had tested positive for the coronavirus infection a couple of days ago and was undergoing treatment, died. This the second death of a policeman in the state due to Covid-19.
Maharashtra: In light of the rise in Covid-19 cases, a 1,000-bed temporary hospital is being set up at Byculla, a civic official said. The hospital will be equipped with 300 ICU beds with oxygen supply and other facilities.
Puducherry: Jolted by increasing number of Covid-19 cases, Puducherry chief minister V Narayanasamy said that the Disaster Management Authority would come out with very stringent measures to prevent the spread of the infection.
Uttarakhand: One more Covid-19 patient died in Uttarakhand, as the number of people testing positive for the infection rose to 2,278 with 101 fresh cases.
J&K: Three more Covid-19 patients died in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the number of fatalities due to the virus in the Union territory to 78.
MP: A senior BJP MLA in Madhya Pradesh tested Covid-19 positive hours after he cast his vote for the Rajya Sabha polls in the state and attended party meetings. The legislator's wife has also tested positive for the infection.
Tripura: Tripura reported 27 fresh Covid-19 cases, pushing the state's tally to 1,186. A total of 657 people have recovered, reducing the number of active cases in the state to 529.
Odisha: A 60-year-old man from Puri district became the latest Covid-19 fatality in Odisha, raising the death toll due to the contagion in the state to 12. With the detection of the new cases, Odisha's Covid-19 tally rose to 4,856.
Rajasthan: Rajasthan reported 158 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the state's infection tally to 14,314, officials said. The state has so far reported 333 deaths due to the virus.
Arunachal Pradesh: The state registered its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases as 32 more people tested positive for it. The fresh cases raised the virus count in the northeastern state to 135.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu: The number of Covid-19 positive patients in Daman district of the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu has gone up to 27 with eight fresh cases, following which the administration has sealed the district's border with Gujarat border for a few days.
Kerala: The Covid-19 tally breached the 3,000 mark with 127 people testing positive for the virus, the highest single day surge.
Nagaland: Nagaland confirmed three new Covid-19 cases, taking the state tally of positive cases to 201.
Ladakh: The Union territory of Ladakh recorded 149 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past two days, taking the tally in the region to 836.

The novel coronavirus has killed at least 459,976 people since the outbreak began in China last December. At least 8,680,640 cases of coronavirus have been registered in 196 countries and territories.
The United States is the worst-hit country with 119,131 deaths from 2,222,576 cases. At least 606,715 people have been declared recovered.
Europe has recorded more than 2.5 million coronavirus deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic, with more than half the total accounted for by Russia, Britain, Spain and Italy. With some 2,500,091 cases including 192,158 deaths, Europe is the worst affected continent while Latin America now has the fastest growing outbreak.
China has reported 34 new coronavirus cases, including 22 in Beijing, where the health officials have submitted the virus genome sequence from the recent clusters of Covid-19 infections to the World Health Organisation.
Pakistan reported 153 coronavirus deaths, the highest spike in a single-day in the country, while the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases crossed the 171,000-mark. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 171,665 after 6,604 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Iranian health authorities announced more than 100 new deaths from coronavirus and another 2,000 cases of the illness, as the country's fight against the pandemic entered its fifth month. 115 fatalities in the past 24 hours brought the country's death toll to 9,507.
Nepal's coronavirus tally climbed to 8,605 after the country reported 331 new infections. The country's Covid-19 death toll stands at 22.
Singapore recorded 218 new Covid-19 infections, pushing the tally to 41,833, majority of them foreign workers, a day after the city-state allowed reopening of malls, restaurants and other non-essential businesses after over two months.
