Representative imageROHTAK: Three accused arrested in the murder case of a runaway couple from Farmana village of Rohtak district were produced in a local court on Friday and sent to three-day police remand.
Meham DSP Shamsher Singh said Ajay Kumar had scripted the murder of his sister Pooja Rani (19) and her husband Surender Kumar as they had married against the wishes of their parents. His cousins, Sahil and Bablu, were his accomplices.
He said Ajay was in touch with his sister for almost three months before he found the opportunity to kill them. On Wednesday, he took the couple on his bike to a Bhiwani village, where he attacked Pooja with knives and later all the three accused attacked Surender with knives before strangling him to death, the DSP said.
In the meanwhile, injured Pooja slipped away from the spot and managed to reach Meham hospital, from where she was referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, but succumbed on the way.
The police handed over the bodies to their family members on Friday. However, the girl’s family refused to accept her body for the last rites. Surender’s family performed the last rites of the couple at the village in the presence of police personnel.
