AFL star Conor McKenna has tested positive for COVID-19 putting the entire footy season in doubt
An AFL star has tested positive for the coronavirus which may put the entire season of football at risk.
Essendon Football Club's Conor McKenna recently returned home to Ireland just as the coronavirus pandemic hit but came back to Australia in July and spent 14 days in quarantine.
It is understood that McKenna is asymptomatic and was tested twice for COVID-19 after his first test came back positive following his return.
He was planned to make a return for the Bombers at a game against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday, but that match may be delayed until the entire team has been tested for the virus.
The AFL season may now be in doubt as an investigation has begun into how many teammates or club officials may have been infected.
McKenna will be forced into isolation from his club but there are fears that his entire team may be put into quarantine as they trained with him on Saturday morning.
Players who are playing on Sunday are required to be tested at Marvel Stadium on Friday.
They are ten alerted by text message on Sunday with their results.
This means McKenna's teammates will find out if they are infected with the coronavirus on Saturday.
More to come.
