Karnataka Covid-19 task force panel recommends price cap for Covid-19 treatment at such centres
The Karnataka Covid-19 task force has recommended a cap on Covid-19 treatment atprivate hospitals .
The panel, headed by Health and Family Welfare MinisterB Sriramulu , recommended two different price slabs for private hospitals. This cap is applicable to patients who directly go to a private hospital and are not referred by the government.
Accordingly, the private hospitals have been categorised into those who have reserved 50 per cent of their beds with the government and those who have not.
Keeping in mind the interest of private hospitals, the task force has recommended a slightly higher cost for treatment ofCovid-19 patients at hospitals that have reserved 50 per cent of the beds with the government, while keeping it low for hospitals that do not reserve beds for them.
Accordingly, the cost of treatment in a reserved hospital per day, in a general ward, will be Rs 10,000 as against Rs 7,500 for hospitals that do not reserve beds. Sources said the price cap has been fixed to ensure that all hospitals voluntarily reserve beds.
