PATIALA: Lok Sabha member and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday wrote a letter to the family of martyr naib subedar Mandeep Singh, a resident of village Sheal village in Patiala district expressing his condolences. Mandeep Singh was killed in a violent clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley on the Indo-China border.
In a letter addressed to Gurdeep Kaur, wife of the martyr, Rahul Gandhi said, "I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Mandeep Singh. Today, the whole country is bowing to his sacrifice."
The letter from Rahul Gandhi was handed over to the family members by the district administration in presence of martyr mother Shankutla Kaur, daughter Mahikpreet Kaur and son Jobanpreet Singh. Retired Captain Nirmal Singh, a cousin of the martyr was also present on the occasion.
Gandhi wrote, "Martyr Mandeep Singh has dedicated his life to ensuring the freedom, security and peace of every Indian. We will always remember his courage and patriotism."
He said that he was deeply saddened by the martyrdom of a national hero and saluted the courage of the family of the martyr. "My deepest sympathies are with the martyr's wife and the entire family in this hour of need," he said.
