Loss of smell, taste symptoms can help quarantining potential Covid-19 patients: Study
Covid-19 could be suspected when patients report severe reduction of taste and smell in the absence of nasal obstruction, according to a study which says the findings can help general physicians identify and quarantine potential infected individuals before confirmation of diagnosis. In the study, published in the journal JAMA Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, scientists surveyed 204 Covid-19 patients and found that taste reduction was present in 55 per cent of them, whereas smell reduction was observed in about 41 per cent of the people. Govt extends Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme for healthcare providers till Sep
Amid rising number of Covid-19 cases, the government has extended the Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme for about 22 lakh healthcare providers for another three months till September. The scheme implemented by New India Assurance was slated to end on June 30, as per the announcement made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as part of the Rs 1.70 lakh Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan package in March.The insurance provides a comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs 50 lakh to a total of around 22.12 lakh public healthcare providers, including community health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of patients suffering from coronavirus infection and who may be at risk of being impacted by this.
Rest will have to continue to stay in Covid care centres as per MoHFW guidelines. Those in home isolation must follow home isolation guidelines by MoHFW and stay in touch with health care providers so if their condition deteriorates, they can be moved to Covid hospitals: Delhi Govt
If adequate facility for home isolation exists, and person on clinical assessment is found to have no co-morbidities and doesn't require hospitalisation, he would be offered to either continue to stay in Covid centre/paid isolation facility or can opt for home isolation: Delhi Govt
