Hemant Soren
RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday announced that his government will give land free of cost to set up petrol pumps to kin and dependants of jawans, who were martyred while defending the country’s borders. He said the land will be provided to the jawan’s kin as per their choice of site in the state. Soren’s statement came after two Army jawans from Jharkhand were killed during the stand-off with the Chinese army in Galwan Valley of eastern Ladakh region on Monday night.
After receiving the bodies of the two jawans at the city airport, Soren said, “Apart from the compensations which the Army and the Union government announced for the martyred jawans of Jharkhand, my government has decided to provide land to dependants of the martyred jawans as per their choice of location anywhere in the state free of cost so that they can set up petrol pump to fend for their families. We will soon write to the Union petroleum ministry in this regard, recommending to provide petrol pumps to the kin of martyred jawans and will also urge the ministry to include it in their policy matters.”
The two jawans from the state killed in Galwan Valley are identified as Kundan Kumar Ojha of Sahebganj district and Ganesh Hansda of Baharagora in East Singhbhum district. Both were sepoys of the 16th Bihar Regiment.
Offering his condolences to the jawans, Soren said, “The state government stands with the families in this hour of grief. While their families, the entire state and the nation grieve their demise, we are equally proud of their valour and the supreme sacrifice they made while defending our borders.”
Governor Droupadi Murmu, cabinet ministers and several of MLAs cutting across different parties were at the to receive the bodies.
