PUNE: An anti-corruption bureau (ACB) team on Thursday carried out simultaneous searches at eight residential and other properties in Pune and Satara belonging to a joint director of town planning for allegedly acquiring assets worth Rs 2.82 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income for the period between 1986 and 2017.
The joint director's post is that of a class-I officer and the officer is currently posed in Amravati.
In 2017, the ACB had started an open inquiry against the town planner, Hanumant Jagannath Nazirkar (53) while he was posted in Pune, following a complaint against him. On Thursday morning, a formal FIR was registered against Nazirkar, his wife and two children, who are currently staying in a flat located at Kothrud.
When contacted, Nazirkar told TOI, "I have done nothing wrong. I am being framed at the behest of false information spread by some of my relatives that led to the inquiry. The ACB has no case against my family members."
Earlier, teams headed by superintendent of police Rajesh Bansode, deputy superintendents of police Seema Mehendale, Varsharani Patil, Sanjay Patil and Anil Patrudkar conducted simultaneous searches in Pune and Satara district.
Till evening, the ACB officials said that they had recovered gold and silver ornaments from his flat and have impounded three cars and a couple of two-wheelers. Work was on to assess the worth of seized ornaments.
