The Chief Justice said that if we had allowed Rath Yatra to be organized this year, Lord Jagannath would not forgive us because such a huge gathering could not be held during the pandemic.
The bench asked the Odisha government not to allow rath yatra or religious procession and related activities anywhere in the state to avoid the spread of the epidemic.
The apex court passed the order on a PIL by an Odisha-based NGO. The petition requested the cancellation of the 10 to 12-day Rath Yatra this year or postpone it. Millions of devotees from all over the world take part in this event.
