Tesla Cybertruck Prototype Making Public Debut At Petersen Automotive Museum

The Petersen Automotive Museum reopens to the public on Friday, June 19, after a long time of inactivity caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

To give people an extra incentive to come visit, the museum has announced that the Tesla Cybertruck prototype will be on display in the lobby from June 20 through 27. This marks the first time the Cybertruck makes a public appearance since the pickup truck prototype debuted on November 21, 2019 as part of a private event in Los Angeles.

“Tesla has been a trailblazer in the widespread acceptance of electric vehicles since introducing the Model S prototype,” said Petersen Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “The Cybertruck paves the way for the utility vehicle of the future, and we can’t wait to display it proudly in our lobby, as we reopen to the public,” he added.

Tesla’s futuristic Cybertruck, featuring a sharp-edged, flat-paneled exoskeleton made of stainless steel and armored glass, promises to offer more utility than most pickup trucks and more performance than many sports cars.

In the top Tri Motor all-wheel-drive configuration, the Cybertruck can accelerated from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, tow up to 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg) and travel more than 500 miles (804 km) on a single charge. Production is expected to begin in late 2021, but the finished item will most likely suffer some changes compared to the extravagant prototype.

In addition to the Cybertruck, the Petersen Automotive Museum is currently showcasing two other Tesla vehicles, the Model S prototype and first-generation Roadster prototype in the “Alternating Currents” exhibit. The Petersen Automotive Museum reopens to the public on Friday, June 19, 2020, with a new schedule of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time on the museum website.
