Tuticorin fishing harbour closed after trader tests positive for Covid-19

TUTICORIN: The busy Tuticorin fishing harbour wore a deserted look as it was closed for three days from Friday for disinfection work. The measure was taken after a trader who visited the harbour tested positive for Covid-19.
“Tuticorin Corporation workers carried out disinfection work all over the fishing harbour on Friday morning,” a fisheries department official.
Boat owners said there are 240 mechanised boats that are the only source of income -- directly and indirectly -- for more than 10,000 people and their families.
The harbour had remained closed for more than two months due to lockdown. Later, the fisheries department and boat owners agreed to send 120 boats for fishing on a day. This gave opportunity for each boat to go fishing thrice a day.
