It is no secret that OnePlus is launching new TVs in India next month. The company has already announced its plans to introduce new smart TVs across budget and mid-range segments on July 2.

In the run-up to the launch of the new TVs, OnePlus has been sharing information about some key features and specifications they will flaunt -- along with not so cryptic hints about the pricing of the affordable televisions.

While the preferred medium of choice for the dissemination of this information appears to be Twitter, OnePlus' CEO, Pete Lau, recently took to the company's forums to share some key details about the upcoming OnePlus TVs. In a post, he revealed how the OnePlus TVs will offer premium features such as Dolby Vision and bring superior colour accuracy and overall picture quality over the competition.

Building on the 'Never Settle' motto

In the post, Lau has explained how the new TVs will be very much like the first OnePlus TV, that was able to "link seamlessly with a smartphone and other devices at home." Despite being affordable products, the new smart TVs again will try to be simply "exceptional" smart TVs with a "refined design, sound quality that you can all but feel, a more powerful OS, and above all, first-rate picture quality."

Lau further claims that much like the premium OnePlus TV Q1, the two new budget and mid-range TV series will see OnePlus giving "picture quality the pride of place it deserves".

Cinematic displays

In the blog, he explains that a big part of providing great picture quality is ensuring superior color accuracy.
"When asked about what makes for good picture quality, a lot of people's first answer is that a display must be vivid, and that depends on the color performance... Color performance can be described in terms of the color gamut. The widerthe color gamut, the richer the color. Color gamut can be based on different standards, and two of the most commonly seen in TVs are Rec. 709 and DCI-P3."

To recall, OnePlus had previously announced that the upcoming TV models will support high DCI-P3 spectrum -- the same as the more premium OnePlus TV Q1 launched last year. Compared to regular Rec. 709, DCI-P3's range is 26% larger, "especially richer in the red and green ranges." So to provide better picture quality than the competition, the new OnePlus TVs will focus on providing exceptional DCI-P3 performance.

This is where the company's Cinematic Display comes into effect. The post explains that for the new OnePlus TVs, the company is using panels that achieve 93% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. For context, the post also explains that such a high score for the Cinematic Displays is quite impressive for the low and mid-range TVs as this is something that many high-end TVs cannot achieve.

Premium features

This working in tandem with the company newly developed Gamma Engine helps the new TVs achieve "range of processing enhancements, such as super-resolution, dynamic contrast, MEMC, color space mapping, anti-aliasing, and noise reduction."

Lau claims that with Gamma Engine's help, videos look "sharper, cleaner, more fluid." On top of that, like with last year's OnePlus TV Q1 series, OnePlus has partnered with Dolby Labs to further upgrade the picture quality, by adding support for Dolby Vision HDR certification. This ensures that the TVs bring high peak brightness and improved contrast for bringing out the best in movies and TV shows.
