Pune: Man returns from London, avoids quarantine, gets booked

A London returnee was booked by Loni Kalbhor Police after he violated institutional quarantine rules

Pune: A London returnee was booked by Loni Kalbhor Police after he violated institutional quarantine rules. Ashwinikumar Singh travelled all his way from London did not follow the protocol of quarantine and now a First Information Report (FIR) under the relevant provisions described in Pandemic Act section 188 has been filed at Loni Kalbhor police station which falls under Pune Rural police jurisdiction. The 31-year-old was booked under sections 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 188 (disobedience) of the Indian Penal Code under Disaster Management Act 2005, Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and Maharashtra COVID-19 Prevention Rules, 2020.

 Speaking to Sakal Times Senior Inspector in-charge Suraj Bandgar of Loni Kalbhor police station confirmed the FIR and said, "Singh had come to India from London on June 16. He is a software engineer by profession and he travelled from London to Mumbai. He travelled by road when he returned to Pune from Mumbai. He was asked to be in quarantine at one of the institute set up and he was also given an option to stay in a hotel."

He added, "The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Nodal Officer Ajit Sanas was handling his case and he repeatedly requested him to be quarantined at the institute but he preferred to be at his house situated in Handewadi. Failures of which an FIR has been filed against him."
