Telangana records highest single-day spike of 499 Covid positive cases: ANI
Telangana recorded the highest single-day spike of 499 positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, as per information provided by the State government. Out of the total cases, 329 cases were reported from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), 129 cases were reported from Ranga Reddy, seven were reported from Jangaon, six from Mahabubnagar.

Drug firm Glenmark Pharmaceuticals on Friday said it has received approval from the Indian drug regulator to launch oral antiviral drug favipiravir for treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 patients in the country. It is for restricted emergency use in India. Restricted use entails responsible medication use where every patient must have signed informed consent before treatment initiation, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals said in a statement.

Anti-viral drug favipiravir gets nod for restricted emergency use in mild to moderate Covid-19 cases, reports PTI.
"The drug has been approved for restricted emergency use in the country for the treatment of mild to moderate cases of Covid-19," an official source in the know of developments told PTI. Following this approval, Mumbai-headquartered Glenmark Pharmaceuticals will make a separate application to state regulators to get a manufacturing license under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and its rules.
Director-General of ICMR Dr Balram Bhargava has directed all States to ramp up testing for Covid-19 in containment zones and hospitals, reports ANI.

During March-May 2020, the number of manufacturing units of hydroxychloroquine increased from 2 to 12 and the country's production capacity of hydroxychloroquine rose from around 10 crore tablets per month to around 30 crore tablets per month. "Currently, India is having a surplus of hydroxychloroquine tablets over and above its domestic requirements," it said adding that the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) is maintaining enough buffer stock of HCQ to cater to domestic demand, it said.
