KOLKATA: A low-pressure trough that runs from Pakistan to Manipur across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and sub-Himalayan Bengal and Assam is set to trigger heavy showers in north Bengal and moderate rain in Gangetic Bengal till June 22. Kolkata will receive light to moderate showers till weekend, said the Met office.
“The trough will lead to heavy showers across the hills. It will be less in the foothills and moderate in south Bengal. While the trough will have a greater impact in north Bengal, it will continue to trigger in the south as well,” said deputy director-general of meteorology Sanjib Bandopadhyay.
“Along with the trough, south-west monsoon currents will keep the showers consistent in Kolkata and south Bengal,” said a meteorologist.
