The Telecom Ministry has ordered BSNL, MTNL and other private companies to ban all Chinese deals and equipment. They have been asked to avoid Chinese equipment in the upgrade. The decision of the Ministry of Telecom can play a major role in 4G upgrade procurement by its subsidiaries.
Government service providers have been asked to change conditions in such a way that Chinese companies are not able to participate in the tender process. The companies have been asked to cancel all previous tenders for telecom equipment. Instructions will also be issued for private mobile service providers not to purchase Chinese items.
The move was taken in the midst of anger in the country following the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers on LAC in the Galvan Valley of eastern Ladakh on Monday night. India-China relations have deteriorated further after this week's incident.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) called for a boycott of Chinese goods, listing 450 imported items including cosmetics, bags, toys, furniture, footwear DN watches. CAIT said it aims to reduce Chinese finished goods imports by $ 20 billion by December 2021, or about Rs 1 lakh crore.
Swadeshi Jagran Manch today demanded that Chinese companies should be banned from participating in the tender process in the country. It also sought the cancellation of the lowest bid made by Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company of China for the construction of the underground section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System project.
