NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday said it would direct states to set up expert panels and on installing CCTV cameras in hospitals to ensure proper treatment to Covid-19 patients, while asking the Centre to take decision on the issue of different charges being levied in different states for coronavirus tests. Seeking uniform Covid testing charges, the top court said that in some states it was Rs 2,200, while in others it was fixed at Rs 4,500. It however, left the issue to be decided by the Centre.

India
India saw another record spike of 13,586 new Covid-19 cases in a single-day, pushing the tally to 3,80,532, while the death toll rose to 12,573 with 336 new fatalities, according to the Union health ministry data. The number of recoveries crossed the two lakh mark and stands at 2,04,710, while there are 1,63,248 total Covid-19 active cases.
The Centre has asked all states to replicate the best practices implemented by Karnataka, which includes comprehensive contact tracing of Covid-19 cases and physical or phone-based household survey, for better management of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Union health ministry lauded the two initiatives taken by Karnataka that have been developed as part of the ‘whole of government' approach with the involvement of multi-sectoral agencies and supported by technology-based solutions and interventions.
A high-powered committee, set up by Union home minister Amit Shah, has recommended fixing the cost of an Covid-19 isolation bed in private hospitals in Delhi in the range of Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 and an ICU bed with ventilator at Rs 15,000-Rs 18,000 per day, the MHA said.
The CSIR -- Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) Lucknow, has got the nod for carrying out clinical trial of antiviral drug Umifenovir for treating coronavirus patients, according to a statement. The Phase III clinical trials will be carried out at King George's Medical University, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and ERA's Lucknow Medical College & Hospital, Lucknow.
The government said the ban on the exports of hydroxychloroquine was lifted in view of a surplus stock of the drug, over and above the domestic needs, and an enhanced production capacity.
A large study of 20,000 hospitalised Covid-19 patients who received transfusions of blood plasma from recovered people found the treatment was safe. The report, published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, assessed the seven days following transfusion for hospitalised patients between April 3 and June 11 who were deemed at risk of progressing to a severe or life-threatening condition.

States
Delhi: Health minister Satyendar Jain, who is battling Covid-19, was on Friday shifted to the ICU of Max hospital from a city government facility after his condition deteriorated, sources said. The 55-year-old minister has been diagnosed with pneumonia and his oxygen saturation level has also dipped, prompting hospital authorities to shift him to an intensive care unit.
UP: Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest single-day spike of 809 coronavirus cases, with the tally rising to 16,594 in the state.
Andhra: The rapid pace of coronavirus spread in Andhra Pradesh continued as a largest number of 465 cases were added in a day, taking the states aggregate to 7,961. The Covid-19 death toll mounted to 96 with four fresh casualties.
HP: Twenty-four more people tested Covid-19 positive in Himachal Pradesh, taking the total number of cases reported in the state so far to 620.
Mizoram: Eight Covid-19 patients were discharged from a hospital in Mizoram as they have recovered from the virus after undergoing treatment for 17 days.
J&K: A 15-day-old baby was among three Covid-19 patients who died at a hospital, taking the number of fatalities due to the novel coronavirus in the Union territory to 75. The baby is the youngest Covid-19 victim in the Union territory.
Maharashtra: Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the number of Covid-19 testing laboratories in the state has now increased to 100 from two in the past. The number of such labs will keep increasing, he said.
West Bengal: Amid the rising Covid-19 cases in West Bengal, the number of containment zones in the state has also also increased from 1,907 to 2,428 in a week.
Nagaland: The state reported five new Covid-19 cases, taking the state's total tally to 198.
Kerala: The Covid-19 infection tally in Kerala is inching towards the 3,000 mark with 118 new cases being reported, the highest single day spike, while 1.32 lakh people are under observation in various districts.
Uttarakhand: The state reported 25 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 2,127.
Tripura: Twenty more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Tripura, taking the state's tally to 1,159. Of the 1,159 cases, 520 are active while 639 people have recovered.
Puducherry: Sixteen new coronavirus cases were reported in Puducherry during the last 24 hours, taking the aggregate in the Union territory to 287.
Karnataka: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa's office-cum-residence was shut for sanitisation on Friday after an employee's relative tested positive for coronavirus.
Rajasthan: The state reported another death due to Covid-19 and 52 cases of the novel coronavirus. With this, the number of deaths and coronavirus positive cases in the state has gone up to 331 and 13,909.
Odisha: As many as 165 more people, including 11 disaster response personnel, have tested positive for Covid-19 in Odisha, taking the state's tally to 4,677.
Tamil Nadu: The state reported 2,115 fresh coronavirus cases and 41 more deaths taking tally to 54,449 while the toll stood at 666.

The novel coronavirus has killed at least 454,101 people since the outbreak began in China last December. At least 8,504,890 cases of coronavirus have been registered in 196 countries and territories.
The United States is the worst-hit country with 118,435 deaths from 2,191,200 cases. At least 599,115 people have been declared recovered.
China has reported 37 new coronavirus cases including 25 in Beijing where 183 patients are undergoing treatment, with the city implementing wartime measures to arrest the Covid-19 spread.
The UK's coronavirus alert level has been downgraded from four to three, a move hailed by the government as a “big moment” in its pandemic fight. Under level three, the virus is now considered to be "in general circulation" and therefore allow for a "gradual relaxation of restrictions" to ease the lockdown further.
Japan has launched a smartphone app that notifies users who have come into close contact with someone infected with the coronavirus. The Covid-19 Contact Confirming Application, or COCOA, was created using technology developed by Apple and Google.
Germany's disease control center reported the highest daily increase in Covid-19 cases in a month, as positive tests from an outbreak at a slaughterhouse enter the statistics. The Robert Koch Institute listed 770 new cases, taking its total tally since the start of the outbreak to 188,534. It was the biggest daily increase since May 20.
Pakistan's coronavirus death toll reached 3,229 with 136 more fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, while the total number of infections jumped to 1,65,062.
A study by Italy's National Institute of Health has found that the new coronavirus was in circulation in wastewater in the northern cities of Milan and Turin in December 2019, at least two months before the virus was confirmed to have spread locally in the population.
Singaporeans made a cautious return to malls, restaurants and salons as the city-state allowed resumption of non-essential businesses under the phase II reopening of its circuit breaker imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Singapore reported 142 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 41,615.
