As things stand, world No 2 Simona Halep is not planning on playing in the US Open in New York, but could change her mind.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has confirmed that the US Open will take place from 31 August to 13 September, but it will be a closed-doors event without fans.
Strict health and safety measures are also set to be introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the two-time Grand Slam winner Halep is set to give the hard-court Grand Slam a miss.
"Given the conditions outlined in the US Open announcement this morning, as of today I do not currently plan to play in NYC," she told Reuters in an emailed statement.
But the 28-year-old added: "I would like to underline that my decision is not set in stone."
