TN farmer dies after unidentified device explodes

SALEM: A man died and three others suffered injuries when an unidentified device exploded at his home near Mallur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as K Mani, 50, of Thumbalpatty near Mallur. He was a farmer.
Mani went to his farmland on Wednesday evening. He spotted a radio-like device in the farmland. He picked it up and took it home.
“The object exploded when he tried to switch it on,” said superintendent of police Deepa S Ganigar.
The injured have been identified as Mani’s granddaughter V Sowmiya, 11, his brother’s son, Vasantha Kumar, 36, and his relative, M Natesan, 65. They were admitted to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital.
The Mallur police registered a case and began investigations.
