CHENNAI: Stating that the
intense lockdown in Chennai and suburbs starting Friday is not going to help in bringing down cases, DMK president M K Stalin on Thursday urged the Tamil Nadu government to release details about the number of testing done in each district on a daily basis.
In a statement, the party chief accused the government of not testing enough number of people in the state. “Though the government claims that Tamil Nadu is testing more people, we stand fourth when it comes to testing across the country. Only 6,400 people out of 10 lakh are tested,” he said.
Stating that in June alone the percentage of cases increased to 10, he said, “This means every one among ten people tested positive.”
Stalin added, “The government should release details about the number of testing centres, how many tests can be done in each centre and how many cases can be handled in each of these centres. Concerned officials should also release data about how many tests were done so far. It should also release information about contact tracing in each district,” Stalin said.
