GURUGRAM: Two toll operators at Kherki Daula were attacked with a knife on Wednesday night after a skirmish with four men from Ballabgarh over toll payment. Two of the men were caught by police. A search is on for the others.
Nikhil (27) and Mohit (24) were arrested at the spot. The two other suspects, Jeetu and Deepak, managed to flee, police said. A preliminary probe suggests the accused were drunk.
“Our cops at the spot and PCR van that was on the rounds managed to apprehend two accused from the toll plaza itself and a search team was sent after the other two who fled in a sedan,” said a cop at Kherki Daula police station.
Around 9pm, a Swift Dzire stopped at Lane No. 14 of the toll plaza. An argument broke out between toll operator Sukhbir and the four men in the car over toll payment. While handing out the change to one of the men, Sukhbir dropped a coin. The men in the car started abusing Sukhbir after which he handed them another Rs 5 coin and asked them to leave and not block the lane.
“Out of nowhere, one of them came out with a knife and attacked Sukhbir. His aim was to stab him at his stomach but he defended himself and in the process was injured badly. When another staffer, Pankaj, tried to intervene and save Sukhbir, he was attacked too. Both of them started bleeding and were taken to hospital. Sukhbir suffered two cut wounds on his left arm and is undergoing surgery,” said RS Bhati, Kherki toll plaza project head, Skylark.
