JAMSHEDPUR: The barbers association here, Bharat Nai Sangh (BNS), has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, demanding an economic package because ‘they have not been earning ever since lockdown 1.0 began on March 25’. The state government has not allowed salons and beauty parlours to open citing the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.
On Wednesday, BNS president Ram Uday Thakur said, “Centre should come out with easy bank loans and economic packages for the nearly 12 lakh people associated with this business. Otherwise we will die of hunger.”
Earlier, a delegation of barbers and those working in salons and beauty parlours had met East Singhbhum DC Ravi Shankar Shukla and demanded opening of their shops. Sources said DC had assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up with authorities concerned.
